Annie Sharp Textiles

About

Dorset born, living in Edinburgh. I create one-off handwoven textile pieces, mainly consisting of scarves, cushions and wall art, also including some commission based work.

I love the autonomy of weaving by hand and the flexibility it allows to work intuitively. It’s a long process to set up the loom and it forces you to slow down. The act of winding, threading, tying, lifting and beating mean you feel connected to every step from yarn to cloth.

Inspiration often strikes in the moment; whether it’s a combination of colours, a walk on the beach or a quality of texture from a particular yarn that informs me when approaching a design. This ‘go with the flow’ approach means I create in quite a spontaneous and instinctive way which in turn sparks new discoveries to inspire future designs.
